A day in Kolkatha

Recently, I read few books written by Chitra Benarjee Divakurani..All these plots revolve around Kolkatha and Bengali culture..A picture was created in my mind regarding Bengal and its culture :)
Second, Our classmates had a conversation recently regarding extra circular activities of kids..Apparently, all the kids who are attending art classes have Bengali teachers. I wondered if art is part of their genes?

When we planned a trip to Darjeeling, I was excited to get a feel of Bengal. To my disappointment, there is nothing Bengali there. Except for politically being part of Bengal, no other aspect in Darjeeling is related to Bengal. However, we happened to be in Kolkatha for a day this week. We had absolutely no plans for local sight seeing. In the flight to Kolkatha, the magazine had an elaborate article related to local cuisines. I noted them and thought of at least tasting them.
As we had wrapped our work early, we decided to visit the Victoria Memorial..The architecture, the pictures, drawings there took us back to 17th  & 18th century for a while. I liked the city. It is quite big, seemed much bigger than Hyderabad. There is a nice blend of traditional and modern culture. Old buildings, even with faded paints, had a charm in them.We had a short trip to the iconic Howrah bridge (actually named as Ravindra Sethu) & the Eden gardens.

How can we leave Kolkatha without trying these local delicacies?
Sankara, Sandesh, Rasgulla, Rasmalai, Misti Doi, Mango Doi, Baked Rasmali, Baked Sandesh..OMG !!

Wondering why I'm not loosing weight inspite of regular Yoga and walking regime? Now, I know.
Anyways, we enjoyed the short trip. Bye Bye Kolkatha. See you again !!
